I Snapped My Resistance Band
Today during the bicepts, tricpes, and shoulders workout I snapped my resistance band. I thought I bought a pretty good set, but I guess I was wrong. Luckily it did snap back in my eye or something awful, but it did piss me off as I had to stop my workout early (only half way done).
I hoped onto craigslist to see if I can score some dumbbells ASAP. So what should you look for in buying weights for P90X?
I scoured my local Bay Area craigslist to first see if I can find free weights. I did find a few free sets but the owners requested you take ALL their equipment including benches and other heavy looking pieces. On top of that when it’s free it was often times rusty and covered in filth.
So I continued my search. I realized that I didn’t have much room so buying multiple dumbells (as you need various weights for the workouts) didn’t make much sense. I decided to buy dumbells that involve plates this way I can mix and match to get my desired total weight.
Example: If I buy 2 dumbell handles with 2x 10lb plates 8x 5lb plates I can make almost any combination I need to push myself to reach that magical goal of 8 – 12 reps and still feel the burn on the last 3.
Another important thing to decide is the radius of the handles. Do you prefer a thicker handle or a thinner one?
I finally found a guy who was selling good quality weights for $60 US so I headed over and chatted up with him a bit. He asked what it was for and I told him P90X. Once again someone who tried gave me rave reviews!
He even gave me a bonus tip for a homemade version of the “recovery drink”. He claimed that if you buy soy milk and combine it with the cheapest protein powder along with 1 piece of fruit you will recover much quicker after your workouts. I tried his home brew with unsweetened soy milk, soy protein, and soy banana, and I have to admit that my body did like that much better than all the lactose I drank before using milk and yogurt.
Anyway, back to working out.
